At Basketball ACT, our Participation department is dedicated to growing the game by providing a wide range of programs that cater to all ages and skill levels. Whether you're just starting out or returning to the sport, we offer inclusive, engaging programs that focus on building skills, confidence, and a love for the game in a supportive environment. From introductory programs like Ford Aussie Hoops and Pink Stars, to skill-building initiatives like Rookie Ready and Level Up, our pathways are designed to help participants progress at their own pace. We also run inclusive programs such as All Abilities, Walking Basketball, and Mums & Bubs, ensuring everyone has the opportunity to stay active and involved in basketball.
At Basketball ACT, technical officials play a vital role in ensuring our games are played fairly, safely, and according to the rules. Referees take the court to manage the flow of the game, make calls, and ensure player safety. Supporting them are scoretable officials who track scores, fouls, and timing, as well as statisticians who record detailed game data using professional software. We provide training, accreditation, and ongoing support for anyone interested in becoming a technical official. Whether you're looking to stay involved in the sport, earn some extra income, or gain a deeper understanding of the game, there’s a role for you. Basketball ACT’s Performance Pathways are designed to support athletes, coaches, and officials as they progress through the sport, starting from grassroots programs and leading to elite competition. Our junior development programs, including Futures, Association, and State Representative Teams, provide young athletes with high-level coaching, structured training environments, and opportunities to compete at the national level. For senior athletes, the pathway continues through our Premier League competitions and into the Canberra Gunners and Canberra Nationals NBL1 East and Waratah League programs. We also support coaching development through accredited courses, mentorship, and performance coaching roles, ensuring that both athletes and coaches are equipped to succeed at every stage of their basketball journey.
The Canberra Gunners and Canberra Nationals are Basketball ACT’s elite representative teams, competing in the NBL1 East—one of Australia's top semi-professional basketball leagues. Representing the ACT at the highest level, these teams showcase exceptional talent and serve as a stepping stone for players aiming to reach national and professional levels. As the pinnacle of Basketball ACT’s, NBL1 East features some of the best emerging and established players from across New South Wales and the ACT. The Gunners and Nationals not only compete at a high level but also inspire the local basketball community through their performance, professionalism, and passion for the game.
