BACT would like to congratulate the following officials who have been selected to be part of the NBL Mentoring Program. This program is run by Ruben Woolcock.

This mentoring program purpose is to give scope of what being an elite official is like; each individual will undertake the following:

  • Initial Goal Setting, documenting short-term and long-term goals.
    • Each participant must complete an initial profile to identify strengths and weaknesses.
    • This will be used as the point reference for the monthly 1v1 meetings.
  • Monthly 1v1 Meeting directly with your mentor.
    • This will include revision of the completed self-assessment documents which must be completed for each appointment.
  • Individual Development Plan, to identify and assess the participants strengths and weaknesses.
    • This will be a dynamic document that can be changed over the cause of the program.
  • Monthly Group Meeting, for play calling review together as a group.
    • This will be conducted virtually, once a month, maximum duration of each 1 hour.
    • Calls of interest and play calling analysis will occur with visual examples.
  • Game Review Analysis, via game tape footage
    • Participants are required to submit a playlist within 72 hours of game completion.
    • This will be reviewed by the Mentor with running commentary for education.
    • The mentee must correspond with the commentary provided by the mentor.

Also, over the past weekend, we had our NBL Education Camp with our ARP and IRP Referees.

The group were involved over 2 camps + involved within the NBL1 East clashes over the weekend. The first session was about how to analyse game footage, to improve there way of refereeing in a world of reviewing.

The second session was an on-court mechanics session, the group were learning the opening of 3PO Mechanics, learning about the play development and being in the best spot to officiate each play.

All the referees sat in a Pre-Game and Post-Game discussion of the Round 11 clashes between the Canberra Nationals/Gunners v Central Coast Crusaders and Centre of Excellence v Central Coast Crusaders.

This is showing the officials that hard work does pay off and learning the insights of behind-the-scenes discussions and preparation is done within the NBL1 space.

Basketball ACT has 10 referees that are refereeing actively within the NBL1 East space and hopefully within the next years this number will continue to grow.

BACT would like to also acknowledge the ACT Government with there support of making this happen.
