LOCAL CONNECTION REVELS IN NATIONAL PERFORMANCE CAMP ENVIRONMENT
By BACT MEDIA UNIT – 29 January 2024
As school holidays wound up for summer, several local players and coaches were at Basketball ACT’s National Performance Camp (NPC) at the AIS Campus last week. The intensive camp led by the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence (CoE) Women’s and Men’s head coaches, is designed to give some of Australia’s top young athletes an opportunity to train with, and against, peers from all around the country.
Local COE scholarship holders, Zara Russell and Ajak Nyuon, flew the flag for the ACT on-court, and were involved in a series of on court, recovery and education sessions as they lived and breathed basketball on-site for four days.
The NPC also saw BACT Territory coaches, Jarryd Heywood (U18B) and Jenny Lonergan (U18W) in attendance, where they helped shape the experience for athletes, and continued their coaching development in a high performance environment.
Along with a host of elite coaches, NPC attendees also had the opportunity to hear from high profile athletes and former CoE graduates, including Andrew Bogut, Jenna O’Hea, Nathan Jawai and Abby Cubillo.
Shout-out to April Croft (Camp Manager) and Toby Conroy (Physio), who were all in attendance to help the camp run smoothly.
With so much talent on-court, and the hard work, experience and information sharing of coaches, it is safe to say that Australian basketball is in good hands for years to come.
