Honours and Awards Nominations – Now Open

Do you know someone who has made a significant impact in the Basketball ACT Community? It’s time to recognise their dedication and achievements by nominating them for a Life Membership, Outstanding Service or Merit Award.

Basketball ACT is seeking nominations for individuals who have demonstrated outstanding leadership, meet the outlined criteria, and have made notable contributions to basketball in the ACT. Nominations close 5 pm, Friday 16 January 2026.

Life Membership

Life Membership is the highest honour that can be awarded by Basketball ACT.

For admission as a Life Member, an individual must have made a significant contribution to the development of the Association over a period that exceeds ten years. Commitment to the values of BACT, with no concern regarding personal integrity. The rights and privileges of Life Membership are incorporated in the Basketball ACT Constitution.

Admission to Life Membership is recommended by the Honours and Awards Committee to the Basketball ACT Board. In their absolute discretion, and without the need to give reasons for doing so, the Directors may recommend the nomination, or decide not to recommend or submit the nomination, to the next annual general meeting for approval.

A recommendation made to the Annual General Meeting which must be approved by a two-thirds majority of Full Members present at the meeting.

Outstanding Service Award

The Basketball ACT Outstanding Service Award is conferred to individuals that provide services to Basketball ACT, or its Full Members, for a sustained and continued period, for example, a period of 5 or more years.To be eligible for nomination for an Outstanding Service Award, an individual must meet the following:

  1. A minimum of five (5) years of sustained service to basketball in the ACT.
  2. A proven record of making a substantial and positive impact on the local basketball community.
  3. Commitment to the values of BACT, with no concern regarding personal integrity.
  4. Evidence of innovative contributions and initiatives that have enhanced the sport at a local level.
  5. Active involvement and engagement with the broader basketball community.

Nomination requires the recommendation of at least two elected Club or Basketball ACT officials. Nominations are reviewed and recommended by the Honours and Awards Committee to the Basketball ACT Board for endorsement. Awards are announced at the Annual General Meeting.

Merit Award

The Basketball ACT Merit Award is a presented to outstanding players, coaches, and officials who have achieved significant milestones by representing Australia in international competitions, competing in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) or National Basketball League (NBL), or officiating at international events in the 2025 year. As well as commitment to the values of BACT, with no concern regarding personal integrity. This award acknowledges and celebrates the exceptional contributions and achievements of individuals within the Australian basketball community.

Awards are endorsed by the Honours and Awards Committee with Merit Award recipients to be named at the Annual General Meeting following the year being considered, with a list published on the Basketball ACT website.
