Integrity

Basketball ACT Integrity Unit

Basketball ACT is committed to providing a safe, fair, and inclusive environment for everyone involved in our sport.

We follow Basketball Australia’s National Integrity Framework, which sets out the standards of behaviour expected across all levels of basketball – from local competitions to the National Basketball League.

What is the National Integrity Framework?

The Framework includes a range of policies and educational resources to help protect the integrity of the sport.

It applies to all competitions and events run by Basketball Australia and state/territory associations, including Basketball ACT.

The Framework outlines clear expectations for all participants and provides processes to manage issues such as misconduct, breaches of behaviour, or actions that put the sport at risk.

Member Protection

The Member Protection Policy is a key part of the Framework. It ensures that everyone – players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and spectators – is treated with respect and dignity.

Basketball ACT and its affiliated clubs are encouraged to report any concerns that may fall under this policy.

Basketball ACT Complaints Handling

Basketball ACT take all complaints or reports seriously and will endeavour to find the best outcome for all parties.

Basketball ACT follow the below processes for handling complaints, giving sanctions and holding tribunal and appeal hearings.

  1. Basketball ACT Disciplinary By-Laws – Open Bylaws
  2. National Integrity Framework (NIF) – Open NIF

For more information on the process, please contact Basketball ACT.

Tribunal Resources

Basketball ACT’s Tribunal process is in place to address serious breaches of conduct, including on-court and off-court incidents that go beyond standard game penalties.

Tribunals provide a fair and independent process where matters are reviewed by a panel. This panel hears evidence from all parties involved before making a decision and determining any sanctions, if necessary.

The process ensures accountability while maintaining the integrity and safety of the game for all participants.

Child Safety at Basketball

Basketball ACT is committed to keeping all children involved in our sport safe and supported. We aim to create a child-safe environment across all clubs, programs, and competitions by reducing risks and promoting a strong culture of safety and respect.

We follow clear policies and procedures to guide how we work with children and respond to concerns. Our dedicated Child Safeguarding Policy outlines the responsibilities of everyone in our community to protect and support young people.

Anyone who is part of the Basketball ACT community is bound by this policy.

Child Safeguarding Education

Basketball ACT encourages all players, coaches, officials, volunteers, and club administrators to complete the Basketball Australia Safeguarding Children in Basketball course.

This free online course provides essential education on creating safe environments for children and young people in our sport. It covers key responsibilities, how to recognise and respond to concerns, and how to support a child-safe culture within your club or role.

Completing this course is an important step in ensuring everyone involved in basketball understands their role in protecting and supporting young people.
